Developer Envy

April 29th, 2003 No comments

Now that I have my handy-dandy aggregator , I’ve been reading a lot of the uberdeveloper blogs .

Man am I out of the loop.

I need to be up on blogspace/meatspace, I need to see RSS tags in my dreams, I want to debate “content:encoded” vs “xhtml:body”. I should really stop reading them altogether as it takes 20-30 minutes a day of Ghost Recon for me to get over the feelings of inadequacy.

I didn’t make it to any of the anti-war protests, but…crap, I can’t think of any funny “sign of the apocalypse” jokes. Link , speak for yourself…

Wall Of Shame

April 23rd, 2003 No comments

Before Sarah and I moved to our new apartment we talked about putting up pictures of everyone who ever came over. We’ve been taking the pictures, but it wasn’t until Sunday that the Wall of Shame went live, if you will. Now we’re desparately trying to think of people to invite over so we can put up some more pictures.

Ok, we don’t have pictures of everyone who has come over. My friend Carl’s picture vanished into the ether the day he left for Seattle. We also made the conscious decision not to include family, or anyone who comes over in a professional capacity. That said, I’m seriously considering making an exception for the super.

Sarah says the wall makes our friends famous…at least within the confines of our apartment. We spend so much of our lives looking at celebrities’ images that their faces start to seem familiar as if they were long lost cousins or something. It’s way more satisfying to have our friends smiling faces burned into our long term memory.

Ok, not all of them are smiling.

I know we’re still in the honeymoon period with Ye Old Wall, because I haven’t figured out a way to suppress the automatic grin that sneaks up on my face whenver I look at it. We actually did it! I’m really going to make an effort to remember this the next time we come up with a silly idea. I can’t wait for the next project…

Tipsy Rose

April 21st, 2003 No comments

Oh yeah, I’m part of a new girls clothing company . We don’t have any actual clothes available yet, and our web site is just a coming soon splash page right now…but what the hell, let me slap the link up here.

I love registering a new domain…it’s one of the few times I get to feel that original wonder I had when I first started using the pine newsgroup reader to post on alt.punk….god I feel old.

Geek Girls

April 21st, 2003 No comments
Is development getting in touch with it’s feminine side, or are geek girls just taking advantage of the relative rarity of females in dev communities? Who would win in a no holds barred code off between datagrid girl and the (not)blond asp girl? Has watching progress bars finally driven G-Spot crazy?

So I finally wiped my box

April 21st, 2003 No comments

After a few months of rising instability (I install beta 1 of everything and write buggy code ;) ), I finally bit the bullet and re-installed Sunday. Taking a newly installed OS for a spin is something like the first drive in a new car…it really brings to light how bad the old one was. That said, I still had that heart in your throat moment when I clicked the button to format my drive. I just know I missed that one powerpoint from 1998 on file uploading with ASP.

Baseball Is Back

April 8th, 2003 No comments

Baseball is back and all is right with the world. Or, at the very least, I have something to watch on TV again.

Like any self-respecting baseball fans, Sarah and I took some decent hitting and pitching in the sixth game of the year to be a portent of a world series bid this year. We’re desperate; the last two years have been really tough on anyone who follows the Mets. It’s one thing to be bad, but being bad and expensive is just too much for any sports fan to bear.

Then in the ninth, Armando Benitez came out to seal the deal on our three game sweep of ?Los Expos de Puerto Rico? . Earlier in the day he?d been awarded the Mets Pitcher of the Year for 2002. He came out throwing fire as usual and Sarah and I began debating potential seating for World Series Game 1.

Unfortunately, things went a little awry , and a 2 run lead became a three run deficit. Insert customary Benitez insults/threats.

There’s just something about Met’s relievers and blowing big games….isn’t it crazy how John Franco only became the Met’s elder statesman after ceding his closer role?

Hawk or dove…

April 7th, 2003 No comments

…you have to admit this country has “Freedom of Expression” high on it’s list of values. Yet, we hear almost nothing about incidents like the Oakland Police using projectiles to control peaceful demonstrators. Is this the type of democracy we’re going to bring to Iraq?
